Towel Animals

Towel animals have been pretty common in cruise ships.

We got our first one at Pangkor Laut Resort - an orangutan hanging from an extendable bathroom mirror.

I was impressed. So, I left a note for the housekeeping staff to express my delight and politely asked if he/she could make another one, provided he/she had time the next day.

To our surprise, these two little cuties were waiting for us in our room the next evening: a bulldog and an elephant.

Thank you, Suparta!

KOH Mediterranean Green In Emerald Bay

Emerald Bay, the main beach of Pangkor Laut Resort, is on the western side of the island. As it's quite a distance from the main resort area, most guests prefer to take the island's shuttle bus service to get there.

We took these shots of Mediterranean Green just for fun.

That's the Straits of Malacca.

Pangkor Laut Resort

How about a holiday resort this time?

During our holiday last year, we spent a few days at Pangkor Laut Resort and I thought it might be nice to show you some shots of the hotel. This will give you an initial impression of the resort that is located on a 300-acre privately-owned island off the west coast of Malaysia, along the Straits of Malacca.

The island is known as Pangkor Laut Island and it is a small island just south-west of a larger one called Pangkor Island. Pangkor Laut Resort (PLR) is owned by YTL Corporation, a Malaysian conglomerate with vast interest in properties, hotels and much more.

The resort offers several types of accommodation dotted along the eastern side of the island: Hill Villas, Garden Villas, Beach Villas, Sea Villas, Spa Villas and Sea Suites (the last three are built on stilts over the water). Nestled in the hills is also the Pavarotti Suite, a two-bedroom suite named after the late Luciano Pavarotti who was invited to sing to a select audience during the official opening of PLR in 1994. In 2002, he visited PLR again to officially open the resort's Spa Village.

Well, with the little intro done, here's a quick photo tour:

PLR has its own fleet of boats to transport guests from the mainland (Lumut jetty) to the island. The boat journey takes about 30 minutes.

View from the jetty - main reception area and in the background, the hill villas

PLR has several dining venues and this is just one of them: Royal Bay Beach Club (which serves lunch)

Lounge seats outside the resort's library

The library: You can lounge around in these 'beds' while reading or surfing the internet with your laptop. Some guests do snooze off. There are of course also sofas and chairs if you prefer a more dignified sitting position for reading. The library is usually quiet during the day when most guests are out at the beach but it does get crowded if it rains.

Look up at the high ceiling of the library and this is what you will see:

The following are just a few photos taken in the grounds of PLR's Spa Village. I've selected this first photo to show the stone reflexology foot path. Notice the two grades of torture.
Inset: Nap Gazebos for use by guests to the Spa Village (especially after a spa treatment).

This gazebo is specially reserved for Thai massages.

The Spa Village has its own infinity pool (there is another infinity pool in the general area of the resort).

We were lucky in that it wasn't a busy tourist season when we were there. The service at the resort was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. Best of all, they served great food!

There is a lot more to this resort than what I've shown here. I didn't want to overload this already image-heavy post with even more photos, so I will follow up with more later, including the beach, Emerald Bay.

I thought I'd end this post with two colour-rich photos: the creative touch of the PLR staff.
