Good Vibrations From A Singing Bowl

Singing bowls come in various sizes and have different thickness. Mine measures only a little over three inches in diameter. Mini it may be, but it is heavy and it does give off the sweetest sounds.

Singing bowls can be used, inter alia, to cleanse the energy of one's home but even if you are one who does not believe in energy healing and sound therapy, just listening to its beautiful sound resonating in the room can be quite calming.

There is a whole intellectual discourse out there on the subject of singing bowls but here, I will just share with you the two ways to make the bowl 'sing'.

• Use the wooden mallet to strike the side of the bowl and you'll get a crisp, confident, sustaining bell-like sound.

• Press the mallet against the outside (rim) of the bowl and run it round and round the bowl for about ten seconds and then release. If you do it right, you will hear multi-harmonic tones resonating throughout the room. You may not hear it or you may not get a fluid sound at first but with practice, you'll quickly learn how much pressure to apply. They say that it is better to run the mallet clockwise as it is seen as the selfless, spiritual direction and that you're really doing it for the greater good of other living beings.

Positive vibrations, energising sounds, this little bronze Nepalese singing bowl does more than just sit pretty on its cloth cushion.
