Goodbye, Simple Shoes!

I love my Simple shoes. Too much, perhaps.

These ecoSNEAKS are seriously the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. They are uber cushy-soft inside! I bought these three years ago and have deliberately chosen not to wear them too often. They're precious. Simple Shoes aren't terribly easy to come by here and when you do see them, the selection is always very limited.

Well, these shoes are now even more precious. I found out recently that the folks behind Simple Shoes have decided to close their business! Based in Santa Barbara, California, they've been making Simple shoes since 1991. Now, they're looking forward to taking a break for some "creative reenergizing", they say.

Simple makes their shoes with sustainable materials and they've been eco-chic long before, oh say, Gucci ever talked about launching a collection of eco-friendly shoes.

My pair of eco-sneakers is a Tuba model. The lining and the upper are made of organic cotton fabric and the toe and heel caps are made of recycled rubber inner tubes. The soles? Recycled car tyre rubber.

Tuba doesn't fit the "pretty" mould and that's because it's actually a men's model (I just got the smallest size), but I really don't care. Simple makes made women's shoes too but for some reason, I prefer their men's designs. I read that Simple later came up with Tuba II as an upgraded model.

Simple's tagline was Shoes For A Happy Planet.

Ouch! I can tell you that this birdie here ain't too happy that Simple is no more.

There is no point in giving you the link to the Simple Shoes website as it contains only an announcement of their departure.

There is a very limited selection available on Zalando. You can also view the offering of Simple Shoes on Amazon US or Amazon UK.
